I was extremely inspired by Helga's post and finally got round to buying a book on Frida Kahlo. I've only recently started appreciating her properly. So, inspired by Helga
I decided to do my own tribute to Frida
or tribute to Helga's tribute to Frida
Headband - Sassy Vamps
Earrings - made by me
Necklaces - charity shop, Curtise and village fete
Peasant top - charity shop

I really hope it brings some inspiration my way

I paint self-portraits because I am so often alone, because I am the person I know best.
Who else wants a go at dressing up as Frida or anyone else for that matter?
How about beating the January blues with a little dress up?
Any suggestions for who next?

Ooh what a great idea, I love dressing up! I feel like I had a go at Frida (a bit half-hearted compared to yours and Helga's). My first thoughts were Edith Sitwell and Carmen Miranda because they have a distinctive look but they may not be the most imaginative suggestions. I shall be very interested to see what others come up with and definitely want to play. xxx
Frida would have loved your post, and so do I, my dear Clare.

SQUEE!!! How frigging fabulARSE are you?!
You look stupendous!
I'm so glad I've helped you discover the wonder of Frida!
I am envious of your lovely tin heart, I just adore Mexican folk art and their religious iconography.
Ooo, I wonder who else might get into this?! Funnage of the best kind!

You make a beautiful Frida!!!
omg I love your tribute to Helga's tribute to Frida!!!!! I love the idea of dress ups-- kind of a challenge (for me, at least)! My brain is slow so I'm going to let the idea marinate for a bit and see if the inspo pops in suddenly-- that's sort of how my creative juices (that sounds kind of gross!) flow :))
I loved Helga's tribute, and I love yours too. So colourful and flamboyant. If I didn't pluck my eyebrows regular I'd have a Frida in no time at all. I have an urge to dress up too now, but not as Frida, maybe as Marlene D or a character from Clockwork Orange... I blame getting a bowler hat for Christmas. Xx
Frida was a force of nature and a remarkable woman.I love both your tributes...you fecking rock.
xxxxx
I would love to join in with the dress up, would push me seriously out of my comfort zone! I don't know much about Frida either, but you look great!
Well, you know I NEVER dress up and make a show of myself...
Hahaha! If I thought I could manage anything as great as you and Helga, I'd have a bash but I seriously haven't got anything appropriate to wear, and if I scrape my hair off my face, I look 90 and demented. So I may reluctantly have to pass on the fiercely beautiful Frida... You, however, have rocked the look.
However, I will think on about who I COULD do. Actresses, fictional characters in films or books, musicians/singers - perhaps these are more my area. I'm too low brow for art, I think. No pun regarding Frida's famous eyebrows intended! xxxxxxx
Brilliant! What fun to dress up as Frida; such an iconic artist. Thanks for making me smile.
I TOTALLY LOVE this idea!!! Let me put my thinking cap on and come up with an idea. I don't think I could do as well as your Frida though. You really look great like this and the Sassy Vamps headband is perfect! Maybe I'll do Picasso and shave my head and wear a striped shirt. haha! Oh wait, that gives me another idea...why is it I always think of men to impersonate?? Now I'm over thinking it.
LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!! As a huge Frida fan I adore this!!!
Hmmm who could I dress up as??? Does Kermit the frog count????
I dressed up as Frida for Halloween. It was fun to walk to work that day.
I like this idea too. I must think on it. You look smashing and this would be a great anytime look for you! Helga, a fount of inspiration!!
Clare you make an amazing Frida. Both you and Helga rock the look like nobody else can.
The tin heart is SO PRETTY!
I'm totally doing this like tonight or tommorrow
I got too excited! Here's my Frida post! Thank you! http://moderncolorsblog.blogspot.com/2013/01/i-am-firda-kahlo.html
You look amazing!! Those eyebrows bizarrely suit you!
I might dress up as Clara Bow or another 1920's silent picture actress....
xx
Dressing up is a huge amount of fun. I had never heard of this lady until I read the story about her wardrobe on Yahoo the other day. Perhaps you will share a bit more about her when you have read the book.
You look amazing!!!My love for Frida knows no bounds and I'm a fan of every tribute to her, you and Helga did an amazing work creating your own personal interpretation of her amazing style and I'm really tempted to take the challenge!
I'm probabily going to do it next week, as you know I like all the costume related outfits!!The make up really suits you, you should wear red lipstick on daily basis and, as Lisa wrote, the eyebrows looks great on you!
Love xxxxxx
Excellent! Your dark eyes work really well for a Frida look.
Awesome pic clare!!! You look very much the mad artist, and I mean that as a compliment.xx.
Fabulous - really made me smile!

You know what, I would love to take up this challenge but unfortunately at the moment, my skin is throwing a nutty everytime I put make up on so I've been walking around with swollen red eyes and pale puffy skin for weeks! That amount of eyeliner pencil might just finish me off!:( Ah Frida. I wasn't overly familiar with her work at first but have seen so much Frida love in blogland that I feel as though I am now. She's certainly an inspirational woman. She suits your style down to a tee so I'm not surprised you've fallen for her. I love your peasant top and headband xxx
Oh Frida is amazing and it's great you wonderful ladies are inspired by her. I have read a lot about her life and she truly was an incredible woman.
Fabulous talented and strong ladies, who are creative, perfect.
Love V
Dearest Clare,
I have no idea about Frida but you look lovely and you boosted up my still low emotional and physical condition♡♡♡ I could not go to the link; are you having the lonely feeling? I'm sure we all are, take care of yourself☆☆☆
Not getting better perfectly from cold (^^;)
Sending you lots of love and hugs from Japan, xoxo Miyako*
What a good idea! I would love to see this as a fashion ladies' meme, because you'd all be so damn good at it. I loved Helga's post, and it was fun seeing you Frida-up yourself too, Clare!
That's a brilliant Frida
You surprised me there i didn't expect Frida on your blog!

I Love Frida, I Love Helga, I Love Helga as Frida, I Love YOu and I love You as Friday and best of all, I Love YOU as Helga as Frida!
Let's all do Chrissie Amphlett (don't know her - look her up - she ROCKS!).
Sarah xxx
Every time i visit here its an education. I dont know anything about this lady but i have seen images before. You look brilliant. dee xxx
Frida would have totally made it as a redhead. She would have been inspired by you and Helga for sure!! Remind me to save broken dolls to make earrings with will you? The headband looks completely gorgeous with your blouse - oh those brows are magnificent!! xoxo
I agree with Lisa, you do strangely suit a monobrow Clare, I still think you look better with two but you could make a monobrow work. Love Frida and I love your and Helga's tributes to her. Don't know who I'd dress up as, I think I could do a good Edith Sitwell looks wise but don't have the clothes. I've been told I suited a painted on moustache so maybe I should follow Joni and think of men to dress up as! Meant to say on your wintery snowy post, hope you're not feeling too down now, those January blues get us all I think. xx
You rock. I am so looking forward to our meet up xx
Awesome!! I have the biggest smile on my face! You and Helga rock.
xoxo
Lynn
Frida!!! (And Helga!) I love this post so much. Your interpretation is spot on. :)
Peticoats, Little Edie and now (when I look at your lovely blog!!) Frida Kahlo. We totally share taste. How about pearls, tacky juwelery, Jerry Hall, Mina Mazzini, Grace Coddington and ... Diana Ross?
LOVE this; you look fierce. She is wonderful, isn't she? :) That Milagros tin heart is really, really cool. Where did you find that fabulousness?
